Become a "Networked" Teacher in Philadelphia

3rd - 8th Grade Teachers Invited to Apply to NID's Teacher Network

“Having to navigate the system on your own without supports is overwhelming. Resources like Need in Deed give teachers the support you need to do things that you can’t do by yourself,” says one NID network teacher.

Teaching can be an isolating profession. Wouldn’t it be great if you had a way to connect with like-minded teaching peers who share your belief in your students’ ability to achieve in the classroom and beyond? Wouldn’t it be even better if you could access concrete strategies for engaging students with curriculum through connections to real life issues that concern them? If you answered yes, then Need in Deed’s Teacher Network might be the place for you.

Need in Deed is now recruiting 3rd – 8th grade teachers in Philadelphia public schools for our 2012 – 2013 Teacher Network. The NID Teacher Network is a community of teaching professionals committed to using NID’s research-supported My Voice service-learning framework to work towards goals for their students, including:
• improved behavior, attendance, and discussion and critical thinking skills
• positive perceptions of their teachers
• a sense of belonging in the classroom
• increased ability to work together
• a belief that they can make a difference in their community

Network members have access to the full range of NID resources, including a digital library, strong connections with community partners, mini-grants to support project work, and ongoing professional development opportunities. Teachers agree to attend monthly workshops on effective service-learning methods and to conduct a service-learning project using the My Voice framework.

Members are chosen through a selective application process. To apply, click here to download the application.
