A Letter from the Executive Director
It’s been a little more than a year since Need in Deed moved to Center City. After 25 years in lovely Chestnut Hill, the time had come to head downtown. With a growing staff and a Teacher Network that was on track to include members from more than 40 schools across Philadelphia, we had simply outgrown the old location.
The minute we saw the space on 13th Street, we knew we had found our home. It’s open, it’s fun, it has a great view of the William Penn statue on top of City Hall, and a few walls were already painted “Need in Deed Red.” With just a few tweaks, it was move-in ready. Even more importantly, though, it has the room we need to grow – both physically, with the addition of new staff members, and metaphorically, with an expanded vision of our work and its impact.
We’ve been thrilled by the opportunities our new address has brought over the past year. We can hold meetings for our Teacher Network members in our spacious new conference room, we can visit schools and supporters without travel time eating up half a day, and we can strengthen ties with our partners both at formal events and by just running into them on the street or at Reading Terminal Market.
Our new location has helped us connect more frequently and intentionally with all the members of the Need in Deed community – teachers, students, community partners and supporters. And when we’re better connected, we’re better at helping connect the classroom to the community.
Over the coming year, we look forward to hosting a series of gatherings for friends and education stakeholders, and we hope to see you at one of these events. In the meantime, please feel free to schedule a time to drop by if you’re in the neighborhood – our new contact information is below.
As always, we are grateful for your continuing support of our work and belief in our mission.
